And So It Begins...

Image
Let's talk transition News outlets across the country are covering President-elect Joe Biden's picks for his cabinet. So far, the picks have proven to be wonderfully diverse, with a number of women and people of color named. Many are remarking at what the diversity means for Biden's priorities, while others are pointing out how much prior government experience his picks have, with many having previously served in the Obama administration.  It's obstruction time On the other end, "news" purveyor Newsmax is taking the opportunity to highlight the potential for Senate obstruction of Biden's picks. Most Senate Republicans haven't even acknowledged President-elect Biden's win, but that hasn't stopped Texas GOP Senator John Corbyn from tweeting that the Senate is under no obligation to confirm any of Biden's choices for his cabinet. Should Republicans maintain control of the Senate, it would be no surprise to anyone if they maintain a strict p...

This Isn't Normal

Trump's refusal to concede is both unprecedented and dangerous  Normally I would be presenting differing views from several new outlets on a pertinent political subject, but this is not worth pretending that any views supporting what Trump is doing is worth anyone's time or attention. The reality is that Donald Trump is doing potentially irreparable harm to our democracy by refusing to concede defeat and continuing to claim that President-elect Joe Biden's win was a result of widespread fraud. Numerous articles from a plethora of news organizations have been written to bring attention to the danger and depravity of what Trump is doing, including articles from The Atlantic , The Economist , Vogue , National Geographic , The New York Times , The Washington Post , and even Cleveland.com . The truth is that no modern president has ever refused to concede their loss, and Trump's baseless claims of voter fraud are sowing doubt in America's election system. He's also e...

Rand Paul Has Something to Say

Image
Covid and Ballots and Masks...Oh My! Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is out there doing his best to spread misinformation about both the election and COVID-19, pulling off an impressive hat trick of lies and crazy conspiracy theories.  Pretend news organization Newsmax shares Sen. Paul's latest crazed conspiracy tweet claiming that he is "calling out" voting anomalies and and big tech. The article goes on to criticize Twitter's use of a disputed label on Sen. Paul's tweet and then rehashes the false claims from the article he links to. At no point does the article point out that there is no real or verifiable evidence of voter fraud, or that the election has been proven time and time again to have been secure and free of intervention, something that even Fox News does in it's coverage of Sen. Paul's tweet. At least he's not spreading false information that could kill people...nevermind Sen. Paul has also been busy making false claims about masks and COVID...

False Claims of Fraud Could Bring Unintended Consequences

Image
Could Trump's lies cause GA Republicans to stay home? Newsmax , one of Trump's new favorite "news" organizations, reports on potential boycotts of the upcoming runoff Senate elections in Georgia. They cite Georgia attorney Lin Wood's statements that Republicans should withhold support for Collins and Loeffler until they show they're serious about working to uncover fraud in Georgia's election to help Trump secure victory. Apparently Georgia Republican voters that believe Trump's claims about voter fraud are reluctant to vote in an election they believe has already been decided. The Republican establishment is worried it will The Guardian reports on Republican officials' concern that Trump's claims will depress turnout in an extremely important election. This comes as Trump continues to attack the results of the election in Georgia, even resorting to attacking GA Secretary of State Raffensperger and and GA Governor Brian Kemp. Trump supporters, ...

Pardon Me?

Image
Trump bestows another get out of jail free card Disgraced former general and national security advisor Michael Flynn has now been pardoned by Trump after running afoul of Mueller during his investigation into Russian meddling and obstruction of justice. Flynn twice plead guilty to lying to the FBI, but eventually reversed course and tried to withdraw his plea. In what many saw as a political move, Barr and the Justice Department also sought to have his plea overturned, claiming Flynn was unfairly prosecuted and should not be sentenced. Unfortunately for the Trump Administration, the judge overseeing the case didn't buy it, and was conducting a review of whether the Justice Department's request was valid. Given the uncertainty the only way left for Trump to ensure his lackey didn't go to jail was to grant a pardon.  He did the right thing and saved a persecuted man from jail Many conservative outlets immediately praised the move. Most had been pushing the narrative that Flyn...

But How Do We Protect our Precious Guns?

Image
A Democrat won, so it must mean our guns are in trouble As with President Obama, the election of a Democrat as President is causing many to wonder about the fate of their precious firearms. As there is still a runoff underway in Georgia for two Senate seats, I fully expect to hear endlessly about how terrible Biden will be for guns and how important it is to elect Purdue and Loeffler to protect the Second Amendment. Biden's gun plan is a heinous assault on American freedoms The National Review  and Red State  both have write-ups on the potentially devastating effects of President-elect Joe Biden's plans. They each detail how the President-elect's plan seeks to strengthen background checks, ban online sales of guns and ammo, strengthen prohibitions on certain people's ability to purchase firearms, and ban assault-style rifles. They then go on to point out with great concern that owners of high capacity magazines and assault-style rifles that would be banned for future pu...

Do We Have an Extremist Problem?

13 People, 1 Plot, A Fractured nation 13 people were arrested in early October in an apparent plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The group, upset at what they viewed were unconstitutional restrictions due to Coronavirus, hatched an elaborate plot  against the Governor. They met several times, including two separate tactical training sessions, while also scoping out the area around Governor Whitmer's summer house on Lake Michigan. They even went so far as trying to gauge response time for police while trying to think of ways to slow them down, eventually settling on blowing up a bridge that leads to the Governor's property. This is all Trump's fault Whitmer immediately blasted Trump, accusing him of inciting violence against her by continually attacking her and tweeting phrases like "LIBERATE MICHIGAN." LIBERATE MICHIGAN! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 17, 2020 Whitmer places the blame for the plot squarely at Trump's feet. She belie...
