And So It Begins...

Let's talk transition

News outlets across the country are covering President-elect Joe Biden's picks for his cabinet. So far, the picks have proven to be wonderfully diverse, with a number of women and people of color named. Many are remarking at what the diversity means for Biden's priorities, while others are pointing out how much prior government experience his picks have, with many having previously served in the Obama administration.

It's obstruction time

On the other end, "news" purveyor Newsmax is taking the opportunity to highlight the potential for Senate obstruction of Biden's picks. Most Senate Republicans haven't even acknowledged President-elect Biden's win, but that hasn't stopped Texas GOP Senator John Corbyn from tweeting that the Senate is under no obligation to confirm any of Biden's choices for his cabinet. Should Republicans maintain control of the Senate, it would be no surprise to anyone if they maintain a strict policy of absolute obstruction of all of Biden's nominees and preferred legislation. It's easy to imagine that should a Supreme Court Justice die in the first year of Biden's term that the seat would go unfilled until a Republican wins the presidency or Democrats secure the Senate.

  1. I hope that you are wrong for the sake of the country! I think hope that republicans will work together along side Biden once he is elected. I think we should also consider how Biden is going to run his administration. Trump was blamed for not working alongside the democrats in the House and so to simply blame Republicans in the senate rather than Biden himself portrays a biased point of view. Both parties need to find a middle ground if even for show especially in times of global crisis. I have always been of the opinion that this responsibility falls on the president and his ability to work with the media and his opposition.
